Want to make a mask for yourself at home? Here are the 5 simple steps to get you started!

1.Gather your supplies.
You will need fabric scissors (could be any kind of scissors but just has to be sharp), at least 12 pins, a sewing machine, thread, elastic (preferably 1/4 in width), small measuring tape, seam ripper (if you make any mistakes), and the fabric of your choice.

2. Cut your fabric.
Start by cutting an 8 x 15 piece of fabric. That's all you will need.

3. Start sewing.
First, hold the piece of cut fabric so the side with the print, the front of the fabric is up. Now, fold it together along the short 8inch sides so you can only see the back of the fabric.  Sew 3 inches down one end with a 1/2in seam allowance (distance from edge) and stop. Then turn your fabric around and sew 3 inches up from the bottom towards what you already sewed and stop. If you cut and sewed correctly, there should be a 2-inch hole in between the lines of stitching. Now, position the sewn edge in the middle of the fabric so the left and right sides are open and the top and bottom are folded. There should be a 1/2inch flap of fabric going horizontally across the middle.

4. Add straps.
Get your elastic and scissors and cut 2 separate 7inches of elastic. If you have a bigger head, then cut more, and if you have a smaller head cut less, but nonetheless 7 inches is what I always cut. After you have the 2 separate pieces of elastic, pin one end of the elastic inside the open end of the mask. The rest of the elastic should now be dangling down, inside the mask. Now, grab the other end, and pin it the same way, across the open side of the mask. If you need to stretch it that's ok! Now there should be a 7 inch or however much you cut of elastic pinned from one end of the open side of the mask to the other. Now, with your other elastic piece, do the same thing on the other side. After you have that completed, push your elastic inside the mask so you can't see it, and rest it under the foot on the sewing machine. Before you start sewing, be careful that there isn't any elastic in the sewing path, because it is a pain to pick out. One thing that is helpful is to drag your finger right in front of the sewing machine foot, making sure it's smooth so you won't make any mistakes. Sew all the way to the other end with a 1/4inch seam allowance and repeat on the other side. Now, turn your mask inside out through the 2inch hole in the middle of the fabric and voila! You've completed the straps! You shouldn't be able to see any of the threads, and if you can, make sure to cut it. If there are holes on the outer edge, just re-sew over them, and no one will be none the wiser! Now, iron the mask flat on both sides.

5. Add the folds.
Almost there! One final step. Take your measuring tape and 12 pins and measure from the bottom up 1in, 1in, 1/2in, 1in, 1/2, 1in. Now repeat on the other side, so the pins are exactly identical on both sides. This is the tricky part. From the last pin, fold the fabric down to the next pin, then repeat all the way to the bottom, sticking pins in the folds and taking out the extra as you go. There should now be 3 folds down one side of the mask, each with their respective pins. Repeat on the other side. Now, it should look like 3 long folds across the length of the mask. If you think it looks crooked, you can readjust to your heart's content. Finally, starting on any end you want, sew around all of the edges, taking out pins as you go. Now you can pat yourself on the back and hold up your completed mask!
